.~
From: JoEllen Turner
Box 346
Nucla, Co. 81424
To: Ms Sandra L. Brown
Senior Environmental Protection Specialist
~` State of Colorado Department of Natural Resources
Division of Reclamation, Mining, and Safety
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215
Denver, Colorado 80203
~4~ a~`Ld~~ ~ ~
~Q~ ~ `.~a~~sage~
O\~\SM~~`ga~d
Dear Ms. Brown: Re- Meeting on Friday with Western Fuels in Grand Junction, Co.
We aze again writing to you for help. We've spent much time in phone calls to Dan Mathews
and Mr. Boulay.
In a lengthy conversation with Mike Boulay, prior to your meeting on Friday, we asked if
we could attend this meeting. We were told that it wasn't necessary and also the space was
limited. We asked that the meeting be taped or an accurate set of minutes be kept. We were
told that he would check with you and see. We asked if any decisions were going to be made at
this meeting. He guaranteed us•that NO decisions would be made and this meeting was just a
stepping block for future discussions and to help develope some plans to proceed forward in
reply to the numerous letters that they had received. This was basically a meeting to discuss
some of those letters and concerns of property owners and citizens in this azea. We asked if we
could be there again because there are a lot of concerns that needed to be addressed and a lot of
things that most people who are not farmers do not understand and we were really afraid of this
meeting because Western Fuels can convince people who aze not farmers to see things their way
without all of the facts. Even Ross or Lance do not understand all'of these facts. They are not
farmers.
Ross Gubka met with us today February 25, 2008 at 10:30 A.M. At Frank and Mary Lou
Morgans' home. Frank Morgan, Mary Lou Morgan, Patty Morgan, Mike Morgan, James
Johnson, and myself were present. Ross Gubka had his interpretation of the minutes of the
Friday meeting with you consisting of 19 pages. Many statements in these minutes are not
accurate, and do not reflect our true feelings or facts about this farm that is presently being
mined. Ross said that these pages will be the basis for the "New Technical Revision" being put
together now and there would be no more meetings prior to that. Mr. Boulay promised us that
this would not happen. There was suppose to be several meetings to discuss our concerns. The
items discussed at your meeting may have put the Division and Western Fuels on the same page,
but it does not reflect the facts which some were distorted and some of the conclusions were all
wrong.
We needed to be a part of this meeting. We need to please talk with all of you here. We need to
show you so that you may understand these things that aze wrong. Please meet with us. We've
begged in many letters. It will be too late if we can't meet with you soon.
