Snowmass has agreed to file this plan in 1985 after we have col-
lected low flow data from our stream flumes.
To date, Snowmass has installed the upstream and downstream recording devices on
North Thompson Creek. Work will soon begin on the Middle Thompson Creek flumes
so that we can begin recording flows less than 30 cfs when spring runoff subsides.
Snowmass will have data from these devices for the summer and fall of 1985.
Snowmass is concerned that these few months of data will not give us a complete
representation of possible stream depletions. Snowmass would like to obtain data
from these flumes in 1985 and 1986 before we submit a formal augmentation plan.
This will allow us to obtain a more complete picture of what is happening to the
stream flows in this area. Snowmass feels that this extension for filing an
augmentation plan will not affect any senior water right holders because of the
following reasons:
1) Since July 26, 1985, Snowmass Coal Company has temporarily ceased all mining
operations. Our wash plant and longwall (two of the biggest consumptive
water users) have been shut down. Approximately 200,000 GPD of water is
being pumped from the mines daily to North Thompson Creek; therefore, there
are no depletions of North and Middle Thompson Creeks taking place at this
time. It now appears that Snowmass will be idle through 1985 and possibly
through 1986. Consequently, Snowmass will continue to pump approximately
200,000 GPD of water into North Thompson Creek through 1986.
2) Snowmass has received approval from the CMLRD and the State Engineers Office
to enact a temporary augmentation plan. This plan calls for the discharge
of 64,800 GPD of water into North Thompson Creek. This figure was based on
