The Mine is on
active status at this time. Umetco removed the Bitter Creek
from temporary cessation to active when the location was
going to be mined by a contractor. Then the contractors
chose not to go ahead and mine. Therefore, no actual mining
was performed. Temporary cessation does not appropriately
characterize this mine. Activities undertaken at the site
fall within the definition of mining operations. The
information supporting the request follows.
INTRODUCTIONS•
The Bitter Creek is located in Montrose County on
Sawtooth Ridge west of Naturita, CO. The mine is owned by
Foote Minerals and leased to Umetco Minerals Corporation, a
wholly owned subsidiary of Union Carbide Corporation. The
minerals of interest are uranium and vanadium.
STATUS OF MINE:
The mine at this time is being checked on a routine
basis. Any maintenance work noted is then scheduled as
needed to keep the mine in a ready state. Underground
drifts are maintained so that a technical evaluation can be
made by the ore body. Underground and surface radiometric
probing, mapping and feasibility study are being done. The
ore body on this property makes this area attractive for
mining when the market improves.
MILLING PLAN:
The mine will be operated as an intermittent operations
until such time as the market does improve. Then the mine
