interoffice
M E M O R A N D U M
~ III IIIIIIIIIIIII III
999
to: Janet Binns
from: Kent Gorham
subject: 1997 Annual Hydrology Report, Mine No. 3, #C-84-062
date: May 14, 1998
I have completed my review of the 1997 Annual Hydrology Report for Mine No. 3. As I
understand it, the mine will be asking for full bond release this yeaz. Therefore, I have included a
section concerning the Division's final.evaluation of changes in water quality or quality at this
site.
1997 Report Review
The operator did not completed the spoil spring monitoring plan during the month of May
as required. Spoil springs were visited on the 13th and the 17th of June. The approved
plan calls for a full suite quality sample if the spring is discharging greater than 35 gpm
during the month of May. By delaying sampling into June, it is not cleaz whether the
springs had sufficient flow to require a full suite sample.
Bedrock wells, alluvial wells, spoil wells, and surface water sites were visited and
sampled in accordance with the approved plan.
The surface site, Site 29, is a rated site rather than a site measured through a controlled
section, like a flume. It is located downstream of mining on Middle Creek, below the
confluence of Middle Creek and Foidel Creek. The flow data for selected dates in 1997
is shown below:
FLOW (cfsl
Mazch 25, 1997
Site 700 Site 900 700 + 900 Site 29
3.7 44 47.7 10.35
