Gunnison No. 1 Mine. In your letter you asked where the
excavated material from behind the retaining wail wiTi be
stored and how the site is to be reclaimed.
In anticipation of repair work on the landslide above the
substation, topsoil was stripped and stockpiled on the perm-
anent topsoil stockpile last summer. In reference to the
spoil removed from the retaining wall site, a portion will
be disposed of in the spoil disposal site at the Bear's No.
1 and No. 2 Mine surface facility site. As you may recall,
this site was permitted by WECC for stockpiling of up to
36,000 cubic yards of spoil material last year. Another
portion of the excavated material will be used to construct
a stabilizing buttress north (downslope) of the sub-
station. This buttress is being constructed to increase the
stability of the substation area. Finally, a third portion
of the spoil material will be used to fill in a depression
immediately southeast of Fresh Water Pond No. 1. This area
will be stripped of topsoil and then backfilled with the
retaining wall spoil and the topsoil replaced in accordance
with Section 4.4.2 of the Mt. Gunnison Mining and Reclama-
tion Plan (M and R Plan). Following that, the area will be
reseeded in accordance" with Sections 4.4.3 and 4.4.5 of the
M and R Plan using the permanent seed mix described in Table
4.4.5 of the Plan.
During reclamation, the portion of spoil stockpiled in the
Bear spoil area will be disposed of or reclaimed in the
manner described in the permit for that spoil stockpile
area. The dirt used to construct the buttress will be
pushed over during reclamation of the substation site to
backfill the substation foundation pad in accordance with
Section 4.4 of the M and R Plan.
ANACONDA Minerals Company is a Oirnion of Atla n4c FicNwiUCampany
AMCO-fi000"A (8"BJ(
