(CWI) has evaluated information gathered from the
last few years. It is the intention of CWI, in concurrence with CMLRD, to con-
stantly review and evaluate the data obtained and revise future monitoring of
subsidence-induced phenomena.
CWI is required to submit an Semi-Annual Subsidence Report and an Pnnual Subsid-
ence and Hydrology Report. CWI feels that, at this time, it is best to review
information previously obtained on the widely spaced grid in this Semi-Annual
Report, and submit detailed analysis and evaluation of other data in the Annual
Subsidence and Hydrology Report.
CWI requests delay of placement and future surveying of certain widely spaced
monianents, and to instead emphasize closely spaced grid data evaluation. The
reason for the delay is because of the severely reduced tonnages anticipated in
the near future.
The history of production at Orchard Valley Mine shows:
1984
ACTUAL
TONS
1,222,000
1985
ESTIMATED
TONS
450,000
1986
PROJECTED
TONS
300,000
Further projections for coal mining are difficult because of the unpredictable
nature of power generation and, hence, coal utilization, We would predict that
1987 would be similar to 1986, and a change based on new contracts would alter
the tonnage in 1988.
As you can see, our production tonnage has been reduced to approximately one-
quarter of our previous years' mining. This represents very slow development in
the Orchard Valley Mine, It is much slower than anticipated and the information
that can be gathered from subsidence monitoring will be delayed,
It is the intent of CWI, in concurrence with CMLRD, to set two types of subsid-
ence monitoring monuments. The first was to use widely spaced grids to measure
the general effect df subsidence throughout the permit area, This would be used
•
suesioiaAV of
WESTMOPEL~NU
UUGL COMPGNY
