The 7969 report was
based on soil and vegetation studies performed in the summer of 1988. The
purpose of the investigations was, in part, to respond to Certain concerns
raised by the Division in regard to Drevious test plot evaluations performed
in 1986.
The overall objective of the test plot study is to evaluate the effect of
various cover soil depths, in combination with slope aspect, to determine the
cover soil depth necessary to meet reveaetation success standards on coal
waste disposal areas at the Roadside and Cameo Mines. It is anticipated that
Powderhorn will be submitting a technical revision application to allow for
replacement of less than 4 feet of cover soil for both the Roadside and Camec
waste disposal areas in the future.
Vegetation Observations
The table below provides a brief synopsis of the relationship between cover
soil depth and vegetation parameters of concern. For purposes of comparison,
Shadscale Saltbush reference area values are as follows:
Reference Area Yalues
Total Vegetation Cover 31 .6a
Herbaceous Production 193 lb/ac
Cheatarass Cover 10.6
Cheatarass Production 108 lb/ac
Woody Density Standard 800 stems/acre
