PART 815 - PERMANENT PROGRAM PERFORMANCE STANDARDS-COAL EXPLORATION
Scope of the Section.
This Part sets forth performance standards and design requirements
required for coal exploration which substantially disturbs the
natural land surface. These performance standards and design
requirements are the minimum standards which shall be required of
such exploration, and such exploration may, at the discretion of
the regulatory authority, be further required to comply with the
applicable performance standards and design requirements of 30 CFR
816-828. Kerr Coal will conduct coal exploration in support of
Kerr Coal's mining operation within the mine and permit area in
advance of and in connection with the surface coal mining opera-
tions proposed in this application. Since the proposed coal ex-
ploration will affect the natural land surface, as defined in 30
CFR 701.5, these performance standards apply to this permit appli-
• cation and are discussed under the following paragraphs, and under
Parts 744 and 776.
Section 815.2 Objectives.
The objectives of this Part are to:
(a) Provide any person who conducts or intends to conduct coal explora-
lion which substantially disturbs the natural land surface with minimum
environmental protection performance standards and design requirements
under a regulatory program; and
In conducting its coal exploration program, Kerr Coal will comply
with minimum environmental protection performance standards and
design requirements under this Part as discussed below and in Parts
. 744 and 776.
