The proposed <br />exploration activities, which would occur over athree-year period (2006-2008), will provide JCC <br />with important supplemental geologic, coal quality, and geotechnical information needed to <br />assess coal recovery potential and economic feasibility for possible future mining of coal reserves <br />associated with the Big Elk property, and ground conditions for potential facility siting. This <br />NOI submittal duplicates information concurrently provided to the USDI-Bureau of Land <br />Management under a federal Exploration License Application. <br />This NOI submittal includes the following: <br />• Transmittal letter <br />• Parts I-III of the CDMG NOI form and corresponding explanatory text, tables, figures, <br />and maps <br />• Legal description of proposed exploration azea <br />• Cultural Resource Report <br />• Surface owner listing and access agreements <br />The proposed exploration program involves: <br />• Construction of 33 drill pads (each approximately 100 x 100 ft) <br />• Completion, sampling, and geophysical logging of 33 coreholes <br />• Phased geotechnical investigations involving construction of drill pads and drilling of up <br />to 39 shallow drillholes, and up to 3,000 feet of shallow trenching <br />• Abandonment (plugging and sealing) of coreholes, drillholes, and trenches, and <br />reclamation of the associated exploration disturbance <br />
