Uept. of ~latural Resources <br />MEMORANDUM <br />TO: CHIPS BARRY, MINED LAND RECLAMATION DIVISION <br />FROM: WILLIAM R, SMITH, ACTING STATE ENGINEER'I~. <br />SUBJECT: RAMSOUR BROS. - GREELEY PIT, WELD COUNTY, APPLICATION <br />FOR MINING AND RECLAMATION PERMIT <br />As requested by your office, we have reviewed the application for a gravel <br />pit near Greeley. Until the following information is provided, we cannot <br />recommend approval of the application: <br />1. Exhibit G states that "any water used in washing gravel <br />will come from existing ponded seep water in the area". <br />Our office requires a well permit for any beneficial use of <br />ground water, regardless of the consumptive use. Until <br />this permit is issued, pit water cannot be used for any <br />purpose. <br />2. Exhibit G also states that "the water demands of the <br />mining operation are to be specifically met by allotment <br />of water from rights held by Strong Farms, Inc. ". Strong <br />Wells #7, 8, 9, 11 and 12 (Water Division 1 Case W-3352) <br />are located on the property of the proposed pit. Strong <br />Wells #7, 8 and 11 are decreed for domestic purposes, <br />Well #9 is commercial, and We11 #12 is irrigation. The <br />applicant, therefore, has no legal source of water decreed <br />for mining or industrial purposes. If the operation is pre- <br />sently in production and using water for mining purposes, <br />it is,operating illegally. In addition to these problems, <br />the Strong Wells cannot be used for purposes other than <br />domestic uses unless operating in compliance with the <br />
