I INTRODUCTION
This study wos conducted in Routt County, Colorado, on portions of the Edna
Mine. The local climate is semi-arid with relatively warm summers and cold winters.
The soils encountered in the project area are typical of those occurring in the region.
All soils mapped are in the soil order of Mollisol, except for the Binco soil which is
an Aridisol. There are five great groups within the two soil orders. These are
Camborthids, Cryoborolls, Cryaquolls, Paleoborolls and Argiborolls. Soil families
represented are fine-monimorillonitic, fine-loamy, loamy, loamy-skeletal, and coarse-
loamy. Ten established series, one variant and three unnamed series established in
Routt County were mapped. The series are:
Binco Mord
Buckskin Skylick
Cochetopa Splitro
h Gapo
~ Venable
r"
Handran Winevada
The one variant is the Coutis-like. The three unnamed series established in
Routt County are Unnamed Series 32, Unnamed Series S I (deep and very deep phases)
and Unnamed Series 68. Three complexes mapped are: Splitro-Rockland, Coutis-like
Rockland and the Cryaquoll-Fluvaquent complex. The classification of the series
found in the project area are displayed alphabetically and by similarity in Tables 2.3-
1I and 2.3-12, Section 2.3.4.3 Soil Genesis and Classification.
2.3.2 OBSERVATIONS
2.3.2.1 Mapping Unit Descriptions
The mapping units described within this section are listed in Table 2.3-10 and
correlate with Exhibit 2.3-I. Map units are phases of soils series, variants of soil
series and complexes. They are delineated by series and slope gradients. A two
letter symbol is used to identify the soil series ; an uppercase letter followed by a
lower case letter. A third letter signifies the slope range of the series; A = 0 to
2.3-I
