2 percent slope, B = 2 To 8 percent slope, C = 8 to 15 percent slope, D = 15 to 30
percent slope, E = 30 to 65 percent slope and F =greater than 65 percent slope.
The map unit descriptions include soil type, land form, occurrence, a brief pedon
description, present uses, vegetation, other soil inclusions, permeability, erosion
hazard, ground water depth, effective rooting depth, stoniness class and non-irrigated
classes, unless otherwise specified.
MAP UNIT BiB: BINCO SILTY CLAY, 2 to 8 PERCENT SLOPE
This well-droined, and fine textured soil occurs on gently sloping old alluvial
terraces and valley floors in sandstone and Lewis shale. This unit is found
extensively above the creeks at elevation range of 6,600 to 6,700 feet.
The soils of this phase do not vary significantly in horizonation and geo-
morphology as the typic pedon, Binco silty clay (05-04-14-30).
This soil at 2 to 8 percent slope is associated with the Absher fine sandy loam.
The Absher soil make up about 10 percent of the map unit and occur on nearly level
flood plains close to the stream channels. The Absher soil is a fine-montmorillonitic,
Barollic Natrargid. A thin AI overlies a heavy argillic at 5 inches. The surface is
a fine sandy clay loam. A weakly developed natric horizon with typical biscuit tops
begins at this depth. Rooting depth is impeded at about 20 inches due to carbonate
accumulation (see pedon description 05-04-09-054).
Presently this soil is used primarily for rangeland. Vegetation is sparce and
consists of short grasses and low growing Artemisia tridentate big sage, a fair range
condition.
Permeability is moderately slow to moderate. Erosion is high from water, and
moderate from wind unless there is vegetative cover. DepTh to ground water is
greater than 5 feet. Effective rooting depth is about 40 inches, severe cracking
when dry may hinder root growth. Stoniness class is 2 or 3.
Land capability unit is Vle. (All uniTS given for non-irrigated class, unless
otherwise specified.)
MAP UNIT BiC: BINCO SILTY CLAY, 8 TO 15 PERCENT SLOPE
This deep well-drained, fine textured soil occurs on moderately sloping alluvial
fans and terraces. This mapping unit occurs east of Fish Creek and on Trout Creek
at elevations of 6,600 to 7,100 feet.
2.3-2
