iiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii <br />__999_ <br />Doc Date:12/11/2001 <br />• CI~ 2.05.3 OPERATION PLAN - PERMIT AREA <br />During the second permit term which extends through July 30, 1994, EFCI <br />will continue underground coal mining operations in the Jack O'Lantern and <br />Red Arrow seams in the northeastern, southeastern and western portions of <br />the permit area as illustrated by the Mine Plan Map, (Map 17). <br />Underground mining operations and related surface operations will utilize <br />essentially the same methods and equipment as presently utilized. <br />Principal underground production equipment includes electrically powered <br />continuous miners, shuttle cars, roof bolters, feeder-breakers, and an <br />underground belt haulage system. Underground production operations <br />utilize continuous mining equipment mine development, and support <br />equipment including utility vehicles, diesel scoops, rock dusters, power <br />centers, ventilation equipment, pumps and other miscellaneous equipment. <br />• Related surface operations which include coal refuse disposal, coal <br />preparation, storage, and loading and haulage involve the use of crushing, <br />screening, gravity separation equipment, tracked dozers, wheel loaders, <br />rear dump and tractor-trailer trucks, motor graders, and water trucks. <br />Because coal production is so closely related to the nature of occurrence <br />and location of coal reserves, mine plans are governed by existing <br />geologic conditions and operating experience. In order to effectively <br />quantify and address some of the physical constraints inherent in the <br />Southfield coal reserves EFCI maintains an ongoing exploration program and <br />also closely monitors operating conditions in the mine. All available <br />geologic information as well as information on practical operating <br />constraints are combined in the mine planning process to develop a <br />practical organized plan for sequential recovery of available coal <br />reserves. <br />Since purchasing the mine in 1985, EFCI has expanded both short and long <br />• range mine planning efforts in order to provide for orderly mine <br />development and identify potential problems on a more timely basis. Mine <br />plans presented in this permit revision application are the result of <br />development, review, and analyses of a number of mine plan alternatives. <br />2.05.3-1 <br />
