• This updated plan has been designed to maximize coal recovery, optimize
production economics, provide for safe and efficient operations, minimize
potential environmental impacts and subsidence, and upon completion of
mining related activities, to provide for productive and self sustaining
post-mining land use.
Operations Description - Mine Area
Consistant with development of any mining operation under current
applicable regulations, development work for the former Dorchester No. 1
Mine began with establishment of drainage and sediment control facilities,
topsoil removal, construction of mine facilities, and
development/construction of mine portals and initial development entries.
EFCI was not involved in any of these preliminary development activities.
However, with purchase of the mine in March, 1985, EFCI inspected all
facilities and surface disturbance to insure compliance with existing
• applicable regulations. Any potential non-compliance areas were
identified and appropriate remediation measures were designed and
implemented with priority on maintenance of ongoing production and
establishment of timely compliance. With all necessary facilities in
place at the time EFCI purchased and began operating the Southfield Mine,
EFCI proceeded with ongoing mining and related operations which include
the following specific activities;
o Mine Development
o Mining Operations
o Roof Control
o Mine Ventilation
o Mine Drainage and Dewatering
o Coal Handling and Preparation
o Coal Refuse Disposal
o Water Treatment
o Coal Stockpiling and Transportation
•
2.05.3-2
