' Coleratle p 1~.
P,B. BnH 1389
Canon City, Colorado 81212
-303- 215-BB94
March 3, 1987
Bureau of Land Management
Dan Grenard
P.O. Box 1470
Canon City, CO 81212
~II ~I~~~~~I~~~~~~~~
999
~~~~~~~~
~dAR 13 1987
Dan,
MINED LAND
f~ECLAMA~ION DIVISION
After reviewing your letter of February 27, 1987, I would like ''
to bring to your attention a few points that may effect your decision
on this matter.
At this point I believe this deposit would be categorized as ~,
post 1955. To the best of my knowledge this was located as the Lucy
51 in 1966. Being not filed on in 1982, we located it as the Hard-
,.
.•~ ~ ship Lode, book 153~G, pages 138-139, CMC# 193573. Recorded September
2, 1982.
My best defense in this matter is to have it classified as an
uncommon variety mineral, which requirements I feel it meets.
1. This deposit contains a very fine quality of banded
Rhyolite, meaning the visual characteristics are by far
exceptional and unique to any building or cutting stone,
I am aware of in Colorado.
2. The stone has a very good earth tone when used as a
Building stone, which appears to be the trend at the present.
3. Material has a wide variety of uses in many different
aspects. Can be utilized as Precast material, Landscape crush,
Decorative boulders, Veneer stone (fireplaces, etc.) and cut
and polish slabs to be used as fireplace hearths, patio stone,
etc. This is the only stone we can profitably cut and remain
competetive in the market.
4. Rhyolite weighs less per cubic yard than most of our other
Building and Landscape stone, allowing more surface coverage
per ton than most. This also allows shipping product a greater
distance and still remaining competitive.
Generally speaking I feel this is a very unique stone, with special
and distinct value, as I am aware of only one other producer in the
United States. As stated above it has very fine banding which sets
it apart from other Building and Dimensional stone on the market.
The color tone insures it to be in demand both as interior or ex-
terior applications, which very few of our other products have.
