Umetco closed 225 hazards during the year. These <br />hazards are mine ventiliation raises, shafts, portals and pits. Most of the hazards that <br />were identified and closed aze outside the permitted azeas, pre law, and were closed <br />voluntarily by Umetco. In addition, Umetco performed mine inspections and <br />maintenance of surface areas at permitted mine sites, performed reclamation construction <br />activities, and inspected and maintained surface runoff control structures. A summary of <br />1997 reclamation activities is in Appendix A. <br />Reclamation activities scheduled for 1998 include the continuation of the reme~iiation of <br />hazards at DMG permitted and pre law sites, and reclamation of the Deremo-Snyder <br />mine.
