The proposed dates for the excavation of pit run from this borrow site arleR9andSa ery°~.
December 1, 2006 to June 1, 2007.
b Their was no discernable growth median suitable for plants located on the east
side of the drainage. When the site was surveyed, the gravel soils were located at the
surface. There was also crushed asphalt material on the surface. In the past this site
had been used by the City as a solid waste transfer station and as a storage site for
solid waste equipment.
The Environmental section of the Cultural Resource Survey shown in Exhibit B
describes the flora found on the site to be "basically barren". There is some cheat
grass growing on the disturbed areas on east side of the drainage. This barren
condition is due to the lack of any topsoil on the site.
The west site of the operation was used as a dairy feed lot from 1927 to 2005. it
was also used as a site to store parks materials such as wood mulch. The manure that
was left on site rendered the upper soils unsuitable for as growth medium due to the
high alkalinity. The upper material was removed from the site and disposed. There are
no grass or shrubs growing in the west side of the site.
c There is no overburden on the site other than the manure contained soils on the
west side of the operation. The pit-run material extends to the existing surface. The
manure contaminated soils that were removed were 6" to 12" thick.
d The deposit varies from 6 to 16 feet deep on the east side and 4 to 18 feet deep
on the west side of the operation. The deposit varies in depth due to the clay stone
underlying the gravel materials.
e The mining operation will be done in two stages. The east side of the operation
will be the first stage. The gravel materials will be excavated from a face established
running approximately north east to south west. A 330 Cat excavator will be used to
work an 8 foot exposed face and load trucks that will haul the material to the fill located
approximately 1/2 mile north of the operation. (See attached Grading Plan).
The west side consists of a long, narrow ridge that will be lowered and sloped from west
to east (See attached Grading Plan). This area will be excavated in 8 foot lifts as
2529 HIGH COUNTRY COURT, GRAND JUNCTION, CO 81501 P[970] 256 4177 F[970] 256 4014 riversideokwvna,eicitv.orQ
