III IIIIIIIIIIIIIIII
999
• APPENDIX 13-6
REVEGETATION/POSTMINING LAND USE PLAN
POND 008/EAST WADGE EXTENSION AREA
Doc Date:12/11/2001
Revegetation activities associated with Sediment Pond 008 will occur in
two phases. The first phase, occurring over the short term, will
involve seeding of the borrow areas associated with the dam
construction, as well as the constructed dam embankment and equipment
traffic areas. The second phase, to be implemented during pond
abandonment and final reclamation, will involve permanent seeding of the
reclaimed dam site and impoundment area.
Upon completion of activities at the dam construction site, all areas to
be final reclaimed will be graded to approximate original contour and
topsoiled. These areas will consist primarily of the borrow area for
the dam fill. During the first available seeding season, a cover crop
of wheat or barley will be applied along with Seed Mix No. 1 (as
specified on Page 13-12 of Tab 13). A selection of supplemental forb
and shrub seed will also be included, as is the normal practice at the
Seneca Mine. The constructed dam embankment and any associated areas
that will be redisturbed at the time of final reclamation of the pond
will be seeded with Seed Mix No. 6 (as specified on Page 13-23 of Tab
13). Since the pond embankment and some adjacent areas necessary for
equipment access will be reaffected at the time of abandonment, this
temporary seed mix will be most effective in terms of cost and
stabilizing the site. The seed mix contains perennial species that are
adapted to the fine textured materials which will be used in the dam
construction. These species can grow in a range of moisture conditions
and are able to establish on harsher sites such as the dam embankment
where equipment traffic is heavy due to the engineering requirements.
Construction activities in the drainage bottom will be restricted to
those necessary for dewatering during construction and actual
construction of the dam embankment. It should be noted that
disturbances in the pond area will be kept to a minimum because of the
. wet conditions in the drainage.
13-6-1 Revised 05/16/88
