7 ~~ III IIIIIIIIIIIIIIII
sss
• BOWIE RESOURCES LIMITED
Bowie No. 1 Mine
Haul Road To West Ridge Gob Pile
This haul road segment begins along the mine haul road (BLM Tram Road) and
provides access to the West Ridge Gob Pile. The road runs north northeast from the
BLM Tram Road to the gob pile. The haul road segment is approximately 400-feet
long. See Map 8A-2, Facilities Map, East Mine and the enclosed Gob Pile Haul Road,
Plan and Profile.
This haul road was previously defined as an access road for which no certification was
required. In accordance with Rule 4.03.1 (1)(d)(ii), this certification has been prepared
to provide a relevant showing whether the road meets the performance standards of
Rule 4.03.1.
The horizontal alignment of the haul road blends in with the existing topography and
should not cause environmental damage. The width of the road, approximately 20-feet,
is appropriate for the type and frequency of trucks which haul waste to the gob pile.
The hauling of gob to the pile is relatively infrequent, typically less than once per week.
• The road cut which forms the road is not steeper than 1.5h:1 v.
Nearby topsoil stockpiles suggest that vegetation and topsoil was salvaged from the
road embankment prior to its construction. The type of material used for the
embankment cannot be addressed nor can the level of compaction achieved. The
embankment slopes are not steeper than 2h:1v.
A drainage ditch is provided along each side of the haul road. Natural drainagewars
were not altered or relocated during haul road construction. No part of the haul road is
located in the channel of an ephemeral stream draining more than one square mile. No
fords were used in the construction of the access road. The road surface is
constructed to prevent ponding water, to provide erosion control and to provide road
surface stability. The haul road is gravel surfaced and is considered sufficiently
durable for the anticipated volume of traffic and weight and speed of vehicles to be
used.
The maximum pitch grade on the road is 15 percent and the average grade is 12.5
percent. This road does not meet the performance standard (Rule 4.03.1(3)(a)(i) that
requires the overall grade to not be steeper than 10 percent. Furthermore, Rule
4.03.1(3)(a)(iii) provides for no more than 300 feet of pitch grade exceeding 10 percent
within any consecutive 1,000 feet, and in no case can the pitch grade exceed 15
percent. This road has 400 feet (its entire length) of pitch grade which exceeds 10
• percent.
7-R- Z $ /RN-o3
f~PPRovE,p r2/1Y/49
