The Open Space Board of Trustees is a citizen ' s board charged with the duty of making advisory recommendations to the City Council concerning existing and proposed Open Space real property interests . The Open Space Board of Trustees reviewed Flatiron ' s original request for mining the Deepe Farm property on August 20 , 1981 , and unanimously made the following recommendations : That the 168 . 5 acres known as the Deepe Property not be acquired for Open Space at this time ; That this is with the strong recommendation that the Open Space designation will remain with the property and that the property will remain a priority area for purchase as each phase ( or the phases ) of mining and reclamation is complete ; The Board recommends a periodic review of each phase (or the phases ) of reclamation as completed ; The Board is concerned with the preservation of natural elements and recommends more natural land contours for the proposed lakes , particularly the proposed western shorelines ; The Board is concerned with the preservation of existing trees and the replanting of new trees ;
