Hendricks
Hendricks Mining Co., Inc.
P.O. Box 653
Caribou, CO 80466-0653
Re: Cross Mine Ore/Bald Eagle Mille/Virginia Canyon Mining Company, Inc.,
Permit No. M-79-O11 HR
Dear Mr. Hendricks:
On February 14, 1994 the Division received a
Division's letter dated January 14, 1994 sent
Virginia Canyon Mining Company, Inc. permit n
letter to Mr. Wiedhalm the Division had reque
following information before the Division wit
Ore at the Bald Eagle Mine Mill.
~~~
DEPARTMENT OF
NATURAL
RESOURCE
Rov knnu•~
C ~uver nrv
ken Cnla ray
C .ennnr Di~eao~
h9v harlB long;
o~.~.~„~, o~~r~„„
letter from you responding to the
to Mr. Kenneth Wiedhalm of
~. M-79-O11 HR. In the Division's
sted Mr. Wiedhalm to provide the
I allow the milling of the Cross Mine
A whole rock analyses of the Cross Mine Ore to determine the mineralogy
of the ore. This will allow the Division to determine the different
types of minerals present in the ore body before it is milled. The only
data provided us from the operator was a single tailings analytical data
of the leachate from Davis lab. The Division wanted to make sure this
leachate data was done from a representative sample.
An accelerated weathering test of the tailings to be depo~:ited
underground. The following tests could allow the operator to provide the
required weathering test data. Petrography, acid-base accounting tests,
major and trace element samples, humidity cell tests, metfaoric water
mobility tests or other weathering related tests. This will allow the
Division to determine what would be released under worst Ease conditions.
It is important for the Division to determine from the tailings or w,LSte rock which
ties the mineralogy and geochemistry of the materials to the mineral species that
are metal releases, acid producers and base producers. This data shlwld be of
sufficient detail to confirm that the samples selected for testing are from
representative sample of the waste rock. Please refer to item no. 1.
In your letter you stated that "what exactly does your paragraph about 2000 grams
out of 3,000,000,000 grams mean?" AS I explained to you over the telephone on
February 23, 1994, the Division converted the units to reflect its accuracy instead
of using grams out of tons, grams out of grams was used to calculate the percentage
of sample selected. The percentage of samples tested was:
2,000 gr 100 = .00067Y.
3,000,000,000 gr.
