Lochhead
Executive Director
Michael B. Long
Division Director
In response to your letter of July 13, 1994, and various conversations, John Nelson (AML) and I
conducted a GEC site inspection on August 18, 1994. Our specif-ic focus was to assess those areas
of the GEC reclamation that potentially impact Energy Fuels permit issues.
As of August 18, 1994, the reconstructed light use mad (Fast Pit Road/Fan Road), appears to be
in good condition, with some minor exceptions. The mad was observed to be well graded, with
what appears to be a competent surface. Grading has been accomplished to ensure that drainage
passes from the road surface to the various inside ditches. Except as noted below, roadside ditches
appear to be adequate.
Specific areas to be improved, one time, by our AML Program, if and when funds can be made
available, include:
- Installation of proper rip-rap at the base of the Chen's Hill ditch near the entry
gate;
- Regrade the lower end of the Chen's Hill ditch to provide additional gradient, and
to mitigate observed aggradation in the ditch at this lower area;
- Use excavated ditch material to enhance the mad perimeter berm along the outer
edge, just above the gate and water baz. This will eliminate a low spot at this
location;
- Create a rocked Swale at the junction of the West Fit Road with the East Pit
Road;
- Create one, or possibly two, rocked swales across the East Pit Road,.at the
location where the sidehill drainage intersects the road. Inside ditch maintenance
will also be accomplished;
- Install a rocked Swale at the location where the mad crosses the East Pit drainage
bottom.
