Dorchester Colomine ~ Coal
751 Horizon Ct.
Grand Junction, Colorado 81501
245-6370
November 16, 1979
Mr. Fred Banta
Colorado Mined Land Reclamation
1313 Sherman Street
Denver, Colorado 80203

SUBJECT: The Fruita Mines - File #79-60/ug/c
Request for Technical Revision - Access Road
to Fruita #2 Mine
Dear Mr. Banta:
Dorchester Colomine Coal presents the following plan for
the construction of an access road to the Fruita #2 Mine:
Section 717.17 (j)(2) Construction
Existing roads on the Fruita Mine site are located as shown
on FM-1. The drainage of the roads is as shown on the sedimentation
system Map FM-1-A. Cross sections of the ditches are shown in the
sedimentation design provided by Armstrong Engineers along with
their calculations (see Exhibit D, 30 CFR 717.17 (e), Sediment
Control Measures), in the approved Reclamation Plan. Typical
road cross sections and a plan and profile are enclosed. All
roads on the mine site are planned to be treated with a dust
inhibitor, which will help control erosion. A total of 5733± cu/yds
of material is expected to be moved.
Section 717.17 (j)(3) Maintenance
All mine site roads will be maintained by grading, cleaning
of ditches, culverts and drains. Mine site roads will also be
routinely watered down, or treated with a dust inhibitor to reduce
dust. All drainage from the proposed access road passes into the
sediment pond as shown on the enclosed sheets.
30 CFR Part 717 Underground General Mining Performance Standards
Section 717.20 Topsoil Handling (a)
Topsoil ("A" horizon soil, hereafter referred to as topsoil)
will be removed from the affected area where possible, with regards
to equipment accessibility and operator safety.' The area to have
topsoil removed at the Fruita Mine site is generally covered with
trees and shrubs. Chainsaws, winches, loaders, trucks, cats, etc.
will be used to remove vegetation from topsoil. The vegetation
will be burned, or hauled to the County Land Fill.
