Mr. Fred Banta <br />Page 2 <br />November 16, 1979 <br />"A" horizon soil is planned to be removed by loaders, trucks, <br />cats, scrapers, etc. and stockpiled (see Exhibit I, Soils, for <br />soil quantities and qualities). Topsoil shall be removed, segre- <br />gated, and stockpiled from the approximate areas as indicated on <br />Map FM-4-B, and stockpiled in the area as indicated on Map FM-1. <br />Stockpiling of "A" horizon soil shall be undertaken in a manner <br />that protects it from wind and water erosion, unnecessary compaction <br />and be placed on a stable surface. The topsoil stockpile will be <br />seeded with'a fast growing cover crop, rye (Lynn), or equivalent, <br />at the first growing season after stockpiling (see Figure 11, <br />Topsoil Pile Cross Section), along with a grass mix of Barton <br />Western Wheatgrass and Sand Dropseed, (Sand Dropseed @ 0.4 lbs/acre <br />and Barton Western Wheatgrass @ 16 lbs/acre) to contiol wind and <br />water erosion until such time as the topsoil is replaced, Some <br />of the temporary topsoil stockpiles will be placed at the southern <br />portion of the affected area (see Map FM-4-B), during construction. <br />Reclamation and Revegetation <br />30 CFR Section 717.19 Backfilling and Grading of Road Cuts <br />Please refer to Exhibit E of Dorchester Colomine Coal's <br />approved Reclamation Plan for reclamation of the proposed access <br />road. <br />Sincerely, <br />Darrel Hesp~~/ e o <br />Environmental Coordinator <br />DH:ss <br />ENCS <br />
