Due to the time that will be.required to complete
the two large ventilation shafts (PR#07), it is necessary for MCC to construct a third,
smaller diameter ventilation shaft (#3) to more immediately supply air to the mine.
MCC anticipates beginning the construction of shaft #3 by mid-July and have it on-
line by early-December.
Also, included in the revision are details and text regarding the electric borehole site
(PR#07) and the degasification hole (MR#214). Shaft #3 is located approximately 1.5
miles southeast of the existing Sylvester Gulch ventilation fan and approximately 400
feet east of the electric borehole site. The degasification hole is located
approximately 225 feet west of the electric borehole site. Please find enclosed a
revision application form and supporting text, maps and exhibits. A Gst of the text,
maps, and exhibits included with this revision application is also enclosed.
Site development of shaft #3 will include alight-use road, which begins at the electric
borehole road and a 65 feet wide by 145 feet long pad. A mechanically stabilized
earth (MSE) embankment will be constructed on the east side of the pad. The
XSTABL stability analyses are included with this revision application for the
Division's information. A portion of the road alignment proposed in MR#214 for the
initial drilling of the holes will be utilized for the final road alignment.
The description of the electric borehole site, provided previously in Exhibit 69,
remains the same. Text has been added to Exhibit 69 to provide details on the
borehole and reclamation of the site. The alignment of the light-use road to the
electric borehole site, as proposed in PR#07 has been revised. It will be constructed
in the location as shown on revised Map 53B.
The completion of the degasification hole was described in MR#214. However,
Exhibit 69 and the permit text (Volume 1) has been updated to provide details on the
purpose, construction, and reclamation of the hole.
