J. Dudash
Division of Minerals & Geology
1313 Sherman St., Room 215
Denver, CO 80203
Re: Bowie No. 2 Mine
Application for a Technical Revision - TR-27
Wash Plant
Permit C-96-083
Dear Mr. Dudash:
CIVIL ENGINEERING
CONST. MANAGEMENT
RECEIVE®
AUG 1 4 2043
Division of Minerals and Geology
The DMG's letter dated July 28, 2003 transmitted its adequacy review for the referenced technical
revision. Following are BRL's responses to the DMG's comments and concerns.
Geotechnical -Roads
2.
3.
4.
DMG -Unless in rock, the proposed haul road along the old railroad bed road cuts appear to be
too steep in the vicinity of Stations 101 and 105.4 on Map No. 16 [Rule 4.03.1(3)(d)(i)]. Please
annotate on Map No. 16 that the in-situ materials of the road cut in the vicinity of these stations is
rock, or mitigate these steep slopes as allowed in Rule 4.03.1(3)(d)(i). The north side of this area
appears to be an area of fill on Map No. 15-1. Please clarify. In addition, please indicate the
contour interval on the plan drawing of Map No. 16.
BRL -The problem noted is caused by a lack of the contour interval noted on Map No. 16. The
contour interval is 2-feet. The slopes in question, in the vicinity of Stations 101 and 105.4 are
2H:1 V slopes. The outslope (south side) of the haul road embankment is also designed with
2H:1 V fill slopes.
DMG- Please provide a characterization of the materials from the preparation plant project that
are to be used in the construction of the old railroad bed haul road that demonstrates compliance
with Rule 4.03.1(e)(iii) (i.e., no coal).
BRL -The characterization of the materials that can be used in haul road embankments was
added to page 2.05-20.
DMG -Please provide a representative cross section of the haul road along the old railroad bed in
the vicinity of Station 111, or other information, that demonstrates compliance with Rule
4.03.1(3)(e)(ix).
BRL -The contours on Map 16 were annotated to clearly show that the haul road embankment
slopes are not steeper than 2H:1 V. Amended Map 16 is enclosed.
DMG -Please include a description of reclamation proposed for the haul road along old railroad
bed [Rule 4.03.1(7)].
BRL -Reclamation of proposed haul road is presented on page 2.05-23
