U OUY IA79
COIiTLZ. COI U. 0132
PHONE f303~ Gfi53]10
The following are revisions to the Thomas Pit - (404 permit application) and Ire
submitted for your review and approval. If you have any comments or suggestions,
please do not hesitate to call.
Regarding Mr. McNure's letter of February 23,1995, please refer to items one through
five of that letter. We will respond as follows:
Area of the northwest corner permit area = 109,730 ftz
Area of the western dredge basin (between station numbers 4+00 and 18-~00) _
225,457 ftZ
Area of the ditch from the sand wash plant to the settling pond = 1,853 ft~
Area of the settling pond for the sand wash plant = 20,899 ft~
2. The area to mined was once the site of a dredge mining operation which IE~ft a large
hole and channel next to the river. Separating the dredge hole and the channel from
the river is a dike that is approximately 1,400 feet long and varies in width from 15 to
25 feet. The channel and hole are on the west side of the river's main stream and
during heavy run -off are flooded by water from the river. This runoff deposits sand
and gravel in the hole and channel.
The channel into the dredge hole is blocked during low water in the spring and fall
during low water in the river. The sand and gravel is then removed from the channel
by using excavators and front end loaders, etc. as required. The extraction of
material is restricted to the dredge hole and channel and does not follow the same
sequence each year.
