..
The excavated sand and gravel is deposited next the west bank of the channel and
the this material is processed by a crusher spread to obtain the desired aggregate
material sizes. Washing of material also takes place to obtain washed aggregates and
sand. The dirty water from the washing operation is channeled to a settling pond in
order to prevent direct discharge and silting in the river. There is no discharge from
the settling pond because the water is retained in the pond and allowed l:o percolate
down through the ground. This step removes all silt and suspended solids from the
wash water.
3. Please see the revised cross section drawings for stations 4+09, 9+g3, 14+68,17+39
and 27+54.
4. Upon finding a copy of permit CO - 0033090, I found that the permit has expired.
The permit was obtained by the previous operator. Their method of operation,
required that they have a water quality permit. They would use a pump to dewater
the mining area and discharge it directly back into the river.
Animas Aggregate does not have a discharge directly back to the river and this permit
was allowed to expire without renewal by the company. Please disregard permit CO-
0033090.
1f you have any questions or require additional information, please contact u:. at our
office.
Sincerely,
Animas Aggregates, Inc.
~~ ~~. ~
David A.
