Kluk^aa''' : <br />With this letter, the Division of Minerals and Geoloc:y is hereby <br />releasing the report entitled, "Summary Report: Third-part;y Monitoring <br />of Battle Mountain Resource Ii:c.'s San Luis Gold Mine, November 23-2=, <br />1992." This report was prepared by Dr. Ann Maest, RCG/Haciler, Bailly, <br />Inc. fcr the DMG and Battle Mountain Resources, Inc., under an oi3ei <br />it ui[t L11C iiineu Ldrl[1 nCt.l dllla ClOr1 Board. <br />The report, dated April 15, 1993, includes a sus4z~ary and assessrent ::f <br />bi-weekly sampling activities conducted at the San Luis Mile, a summary <br />and assessment ~r analytical activities conducted by an independen*_ <br />analytical laboratory, and contai^s recommendatier_s for c2:arges i the <br />sampling and analytical protocol. <br />Interested parties should be aware of several items regarding this <br />report. The time *_aken to conduc*_ the first field samplin<~ was del_yed <br />for several reasons. First, the Division has never had to address an <br />abatement requirement through a third-party monitor, and t:ze time taken <br />to prepare the legal documents necessary to accommodate those <br />requirements proved to be considerable. Second, while then contractual <br />arrangements were being drawn up, the contractor (originally Ann Maest) <br />moved from private practice to a commercial consulting firm. This <br />change required that the new contracting company (RCG/Harler, Bailly, <br />Inc.) review the terms of the contract for conformance with pre- <br />existing company policies, and this too took time. Third, the <br />laboratory chosen to complete the water analyses was forced to delay <br />completion of some analyses to accommodate moving their analytical <br />facilities.
