The amendment changes the mining method from wet to dry Honing
with the installation of a slurry wall around Longhorn and Sharkey lake azeas. The Division of Minerals
and Geology ("Division") is required to make an apgroval or denial decision no later than August 23,
2004, therefore, your response to the following adequacy review concerns should be submitted to the
Division as soon as possible. -
1. Exhibit C-1 was revised to depict the lakes that will be lined with a slurry wall to prevent the
migration of groundwater into Longhorn Lake and Sharkey's Lake. It was difficult to determine the
location of the slurry wall in relation to the gas(oil lines that surround the pits(lakes. Please revise
the map to clearly depict the location of the slurry wall in relation to the gasloil lines and wells.
Rule 6.4.4 Exhibit D-Mine Flan
On Page 3 of the application, the applicant states that remaining lake azeas may change, and a
Technical Revision will be filed once Platte Sand and Gravel knows what changes will need to
upgrade the groundwater impacts and lake configurations for the rest of the mine area. Lakes that
are lined either by slurry wall or compacted clay liners for the purpose of storing water does change
the .end land use to developed water resources. Please be aware -that lining any-of-the remaining
lakes via a slurry wall or compacted clay liner may need to be addressed as a future amendment to
Office of Office of Colorado
Mined Land Reclamation Active and Inactive Mines Geological Survey
