The first is titled
"Quality Assurance/Quality Control Protocols" and is dated April
1992. This document was prepared by Halapaska and Associates. The
second is a report from ASCI titled "Evaluation of Cyanide
Chemistry" dated May 1992, and the third is a letter deport from
Bi•IG to MLRD titled "Technical Revision No. 007" dated Ma~+ 26, 1992.
We have taken a look through these materials. These repmrts relate
to sampling procedures, the use of the Cytox process to deduce free
cyanide in the tailings, and the use of the hydrogen peroxide
process to reduce WAD cyanide. In reviewing these documents, we
have the following comments and questions:
Document No. 1.. QA/QC Protocols
1. In reporting sampling results, at any sample point in
which insufficient fluid is available for analysis, the
quantity of extracted fluid should be noted. In monitor
wells, water levels should be reported prior to sampling. In
lysimeter's, if it is impossible to secure the ned:essary 100
ml of sample, the volume of sample recovered should be noted.
Points producing insufficient water should be p@riodically
reviewed to determine if modifications in the sample plan
could be made which would allow for the colleQtion of a
sample. Such modifications could include reducirng sampling
frequency, bulking samples, or diluting samples.
2. All data, including QA/QC data generated by the new
protocols, should be distributed to Costilla County
Conservancy District for review.
Ground Water Hydrology Engineering Geology Geophysics Geotechnical Consultants
