J&T Consulting, Inc.
January 3, 2007
Erica Crosby
Environmental Protection Specialist
State of Colorado
Division of Reclamation, Mining, 8~ Safety
1313 Sherman Street -Room 215
Denver, CO 80203
RECEIVED
JAN 0; 4 '2007
Division of Reclamation,
Mining and Safety
RE: NCCI Pit #1, Technical Revision No. 3 Adequacy Review Response Questions
File No. M-2001-107
Dear Ms. Crosby,
We have received the questions that the Division has regarding NCCI's Technical Revision No.
3 adequacy review response. NCCI offers the following response to the two questions that the
Division requires be addressed for the NCCI Pit #1 Technical Revision No. 3 request to be
approved:
1. NCCI submitted a map depicting 8 monitoring well locations and provided water level readings
for the wells. Please provide the Division with a monitoring plan, including the parameters to be
monitored and the timing of well data submittal. Typically field parameters are obtained and
submitted with the annual reclamation report
NCCI will be implementing recharge ditches/ponds around the perimeter of the mine to minimize
the affect that dewatering activities will have on the surrounding aquifer. NCCI intends to
construct the recharge ditches/ponds and begin the recharge activities as soon as possible. It
will take approximately 30 days for the cone of depressionlradius of influence to stabilize after
the recharge ditches/ponds have been implemented. Once the recharge ditcheslponds are in
use and the cone of depression/radius of influence has stabilized NCCI will begin measuring
and recording the groundwater depths in each of the monitoring wells.
For the first year after the recharge ditches/ponds are in use the groundwater depths will be
measured and recorded at least monthly in each well to establish what the seasonal
groundwater levels are for the stabilized cone of depression/radius of influence. These
measurements will be used as a benchmark for maintaining the groundwater levels in
subsequent years.
After the first year the groundwater depths will be measured and recorded on the same
schedule to verify that the benchmark depths are being maintained. It is NCCI's goal to maintain
the groundwater depths within one to two feet of the benchmark depths. If the measured
groundwater depths are seen to be outside that range for any area, NCCI will increase the
1400 W 122n° Avenue -Suite 120 • W estminster CO 80234 • Ph: 30357-0735 • Fax: 303-020-0343
