The revision proposes to revise the groundwater
monitoring program for both the interim status period and for commercial production once
operations resume.
The Division has the following comments that will need to be addressed prior to approval of the
revision:
1. Possible exceedances with newly established Numeric Protection Levels (NPL) and
Early Warning Indicators (EWI) standards:
American Soda proposes new NPL and EWI standazds for a number of water quality
permit condition values. Based on the new standards proposed, American Soda may
exceed a number of the newly established standards based on what they have sampled to
date. The following is a list of wells that will fall above the newly established NPL or
EWI for the given standard:
Conductivity:
• 28-1 (EWn
• 21-5 (EWn
• 21-3U (NPL)
• 29-3 (EWI)
• 21-4a (EWI)
• 21-3b (NPL)
Potassium:
• 28-1 (EWI)
• 21-5 (EWn
Sodium Concentration:
• 28-1 (EWI)
Office of
Mined Land Reclamation
Office of
ARive and Inactive Mines
Colorado
Geological Survey
