Additionally, it was noted that the Division does not
have a Weed Management Plan'on file for the Kauffinan Pit site.
The Weed Management Plari for the Kauffman Pit is attached: Although a formal plan was not
previously submitted to the Division, weed management has been conducted on the Kauffinan
Pit site for yeazs. The operator is currently conducting mining and reclamation activities on
adjacent properties and weed management has always included all sites owned or leased by the
operator, including the Kauffman Pit site.
In general; weeds are controlled by minimizing disturbed azeas and reclaiming affected areas as
soon as possible, including revegetating, following disturbances. Weed management has also
included both mechanical and chemical controls. Mowing has been used throughout the growing
season in order to keep noxious weeds from going to seed. Chemical spraying has occurred to
manage weeds in reclaimed areas, disturbed-azeas, open pits, and stockpile materials.
r. - .
Discussion with weed control professionals conducting the current weed management indicate
that Canadian thistle is the primary noxious weed identified on they Kauffman Pit and other
adjacent mining properties controlled by the operator. Physical removal or mowing and aerial
and ground, chemical'.spraying have been-employed to control the thistle and other noxious
w ds.
1499 West 120th Avenue;-Suite 200 (303) 452-6611 ~ Fax (303) 452-2759
Denver, Colorado 80234-2759' _ ~- www.applegategroup.com
