Kauffman Pit.Technica[ Revision <br /> <br />July 27, 2006 <br />Page 2 of 2 <br />Consistent with the Division policy memorandum dated January 19,. 2005, Russian olive and <br />- tamarisk have recently been: added to the list of tazget species for weed management on the <br />Kauffman-Pit site:~.Lazge Russian olive trees/shrubs aze prevalent along lake shorelines on the <br />site and tamarisk is less established; but present in localized areas. However; the Kauffman Pit <br />site is not a sole source' for infestation on to adjacent properties for these, species. The Boyd <br />Lake;Outlet Ditch,-which crosses the site, and Boyd Lake State Park at the ditch origin north of <br />the site, also have=large concentrations of established Russian olive trees/shrubs and tamarisk is <br />also present. Along ':the Big Thompson River, including~State Wildlife azeas upstream and <br />downstream_ of the, site, mature Russian olive trees/shrubs are widespread and tamarisk is less <br />common, but present: , <br />The updated weed management:plati for the Kauffman Pit includes :controlling both Russian <br />olive and tamarisk. Established Russian olive trees/shrubs azound lake shorelines and in azeas <br />thabhabe already:been mostly reclaimed-will not be removed or eradicated. These trees/shrubs <br />established themselves: after mining. activities were ~cottiplete nearly 20 years ago, and long <br />before policies for Russiari:olive eradication had been adopted. The current weed management <br />plan does, howevei, include control and management to prevent Russian olive from spreading <br />and establishing in~new mitring and reclamation azeas on the site. <br />Tamarisk is less established, on the Kauffinan Pit site.
