The level and quality of groundwater, pit inflows,
and quality of surface water, the level of the phreatic surface in the
tailings embankment, the settlement of embankment, freewater~pond volumes,
and the embankment and disposal area levels will be monitored and recorded
systematically. Almost continuous visual observations oIf the mining
project will be conducted by the operating personnel. Significant
observations will be recorded.
The development of the monitoring program detains, such as
observation well locations, sampling type and sampling f~hequency, and
possible piezometer locations will be an evolutionary process continuing
throughout construction and operation of the project.
For this reason, the observation program and monitoring plans
outlined herein should be viewed as subject to change during tie operations
as necessary to ensure comprehensive site monitoring.
During operation, visual observations will be made of the tailings
disposal facilities on a daily basis to check the condition o.f the
embankment, disposal area, pipelines, and water control facilities.
Prior to tailings deposition, an operator's manual will be written
which will explain the general design criteria and what to look for during
operation. The operator's manual will contain standard forms for recording
and reporting observations from visual inspections and data obtained from
monitoring systems.
