Olson, Director ~~~~
Please accept my apologies for Bill Clark'' unfortunate quotes in today's Denver Post
I can assure you Mr. Clark's opinions relative to the effectiveness of your agency are his
own and do not represent my or this agency's position. Our role as a wildlife agency is to
provide decision makers with the most accurate and supportive facts about wildlife. It is not,
however, our job to question or criticize the political processes empowered by our state
constitution and legislature. The Division of Wildlife, like the MLRB, has both a technical
and a political process. The political process provides checks and balances for implementing
decisions that reflect the will of the people of the state of Colorado. It has worked very well
over the years and has my support.
I do suppcrt our agency being aggressive in the "wildlife technical',' arena. I do not approve
of or support our employees when they inappropriately attempt to influence the political
process, especially beyond the scope of their immediate responsibilities and knowledge.
Our agencies have enjoyed a good constructive, positive working relationship. It is certainly
my intention to see that continue. Again, please accept my apologies and we look forward to
working together with your agency for the betterment of the state of Colorado in the future.
PDO/ej
cc: Jim Lochhead
DEPARTMENT OF NATURAL RESOURCES, James S.
