OF MINERALS
8 GEOLOGY
RE: Mid Term Review Responses for August 4, 1998 Comments
New Elk Mioe (Permit C-81-O11)
Dear Mr. Gorham,
Attached aze three (3) copies of Picketvvire Processing, LLC's responses to the CDMG's August 4,
1998 mid term review comment letter for the New Elk Mine. The comments that require responses
are submitted below in the same order as your comment letter. Associated revised Permit Document
materials are attached and listed on the revised material summary page following this letter.
1. Material in Exhibit 33 should be removed from the Permit Document. Page vii of the Table of
Contents has been revised to indicate the change. This page was sent as part of MR-79.
28. Picketwire proposes to reestablish vegetation reference areas in other locations than currently
exist due to land ownership and control. Since the 1998 field season has past to acquire the
necessary information for this submittal, we request that if the Division provide at least one year
of lead-time so that the information can be gathered and submitted following the field season
of 1999.
30. The seed mix on Page 2.058 has been revised to eliminate Dames Rocket in the contents of
the Rocky Mountain Wild Flower Mix.
33. The first part of this question deals with road design specifications. The access road to the RDA
and access roads above the hoist house have been found to be in compliance. The light-use road
along the RDA conveyor is too steep to meet the requirements of Rule 4.03.3(3)(a). Rather than
reroute the road and create additional disturbance, Picketwire proposes to eliminate the road
designation. Access for maintenance of the RDA conveyor belt is necessary and we propose to
designate this area as a maintenance corridor. Past history of use of this area has been
specifically for belt maintenance and not for general access to the RDA area. Page 2.05-8 and
Map 11 have been revised to indicate the purpose of this area. Picketwire requests approval of
this designation.
5231 South Quebcc Strect • Greenwood Village, Colorado 80111
Phone (303') 850-0930 • Fax (3031721-9298
Web Site: www.greystone-consultants.com • E-mail: greystone@greystone-consultants.com
,...
