Lnng <br />Division Dneaur <br />I have completed a review of the following sections of the PAP for <br />the Roadside Portals Mine: <br />2.04.5 General Description of Hydrology and Geology <br />2.04.6 Geology Description <br />2.04.7 Hydrology Description <br />2.05.6(3) Protection of Hydrologic Balance <br />2.06.8 Alluvial Valley Floors <br />My comments follow: <br />1) On page 54, the operator states, "The water table is <br />discontinuous due to the interbedded sandstones and / <br />shales of the upper portion of the Mesa Verde formation ,/ <br />which in itself is discontinuous." Is the operator <br />inferring that the Mesa Verde Formation is discontinuous <br />or that the Mesa Verde Formation is comprised of <br />discontinuous beds? This should be clarified in the PAP. <br />2) On page 56, the discussion of groundwater quality should <br />reference any baseline studies that have been conducted <br />for ground water. <br />3) On page 60, the operator states, "Though recharge occurs <br />at a slow rate because permeability is low, beds lower <br />than the river are not continuously recharged. In ~ <br />contrast, recharge is discontinuous and occurs at an even <br />lower rate to beds above the level of the Colorado <br />River." These two statements, considered together, seem <br />a bit ambiguous and slightly contradictory. This should <br />be clarified in the PAP. <br />4) The section on Protection of the Hydrologic Balance, <br />which begins on page 202f, should be updated to reflect <br />the opening of the Roadside North portal.
