Additional Investigation and Monitoring Boreholes in the G Pit Area
Sixteen investigation and monitoring boreholes have been completed in the G/K pits and
Z pit azeas. Surface benchmazks have been installed at every site to measure movement
of the landslide block. Three inclinometers and three piezometers were installed. One
inclinometer and two piezometers were not installed as planned as the drill holes caved in
before the instrumentation could be installed.
Consultants have suggested that three additional holes need to be drilled in the G pit area.
These holes will be used to better verify the slip plane, the condition of the seams above
and below the slip plane and verify if the landslide block continues to move. These three
additional holes will be drilled during the summer project season. The holes will be
continuously cored and a surface benchmazk will be installed in each hole. One hole has
been selected for piezometer monitoring. Enclosed is section 3.3.3 of the permit, which
has been updated to include the three additional holes. The total number of inclinometers
and piezometers that will be installed during this project have been updated in this
section. Enclosed Tables 3.3-1 and 3.3-2 have been updated with the description of the
three additional sites. Enclosed Table 3.3-3 has been updated with the additional planned
instrumentation of the holes. The three holes that did not receive planned instrumentation
have also been updated in Table 3.3-3. Figure MR 213-1 is attached and shows the
locations of the three additional sites.
