Cottony
Division Director
Natural Resource Trustee
The Division of Reclamation Mining and Safety has finished the review of the above referenced
application. Per our conversation some minor changes to Exhibit C and F Maps and some notification
cards are the only outstanding issues. Staff has calculated the initial reclamation liability for the
proposed mine using information within the application and information submitted by Sessions. The
estimate is based on what it would cost the state to hire a contractor to reclaim the site if the bond was
forfeited and not necessarily what it will cost Sessions to do the work.
Staff s estimate for the proposed reclamation of the site is $35,527.00. This breaks down to $1776.00
per acre which is about half of the average calculated on similaz types of operations. The straight
forward mine plan, day-lighting to the west and relative shallowness of the proposed excavation helped
keep the cost in check. Please review the estimate carefully. Should there be any questions or
corrections contact staff immediately. If the estimate is acceptable, a verbal confirmation and the last of
the above mentioned documentation is all that is necessary to render a decision.
If you need additional information, please contact me at the Division of Reclamation, Mining and
Safety, Grand Junction Field Office, 101 S. 3rd St., Suite 301, Grand Junction, Colorado 81501,
telephone no. 970.241.1117.
Sincerely,
//• `~~~
G.
