J. E. STOVER & ASSOCIATES, INC.
P.O. BOX 60340
GRAND JUNCTION, COLORADO 81506
PHONE: (970) 245-4101, FAX 242-7908
I • MINE ENGINEERING
MINE RECLAMATION
September 21, 2006
Dan Roussin
Colorado Department of Transportation
222 South 61 Street, Room 317
Grand Junction. CO 81501
Re: Bowie Resources, LLG -Bowie No. 1 Mine
Reclamation Project, DRMS Permit C-96-083
Dear Mr. Roussin:
CIVIL ENGINEERING
CONST. MANAGEMENT
Bowie Resources, LLC, ("BRL") is in the process of reclaiming its Paonia unit
train loadout. Work required is the removal of all structures including the three
110 feet high by 70 feet in diameter concrete silos. Because the structures are
• adjacent to SN-133, the Division of Reclamation Mining & Safety asked BRL to
determine if the DOT requires any permit or approvals for the work.
The concrete silos wilt be razed with hydraulic shears suspended from a crane.
The steel structures will be torn down with hydraulic shears. The material
salvaged from the demolition project will be shipped via truck and rail. Traffic
generated by this project should not exceed five trucks and ten vehicles per day,
well below the threshold of existing permits 399055, 399056 & 399057
(enclosed).
BRL has designed and planned its demolition work so there will be no impact to
SH-133 or its right-of-way. The silos are about 120-feet from the right-of-way
and the top of the silos are about 95 feet above the right-of-way. The silos could
tip over and not reach the right-of-way. Therefore, temporary traffic control will
not be necessary during demolition. Section A on the enclosed Figure 1
presents a scher~i~ of the silos next to the highway right-of-way.
do•~p0 REC%•e
~~0~ °°pO E °0°°~lcr•g
Sincerely,,oaa,~,s STOa~e~4
v.~ ~°~~
To ~
J.
