Dept. of Natural Resources I will try to clarify your questions an an item 6y item basis as listed in your inquiry. Under application item #15, for Pit No. 1, when the;eree has keen mined out, there will be a flat and level area protected an two sides by a berm or elevated land. The level area will consist of about five acres and will he utilized by installation of the San Miguel County Maintenance Shop and storage area. In Pit No. 6, this is a sandstone shelf,..ar:ledge with no topsoil at all and the material is drilled and blasted to obtain large stone Por rip-rap and erosion control. It is only used periodically and I anticipate a life span of 10 tc 15 years before being ex- hausted, but if it is discontinued before that time, then it will 6e housed over and used as storage area, as it is sd~acent to another county maintenance shop. In this area, the county owned land is twenty (20) acres, but the actual pit excavation comprises an area oP about 50 feet by 200 feet. Exhibit 8 1. In all pit areas where there is topsoil to be removed, it is ~i<~^iymerely pushed to either side of excavation and stockpiled so as ~' t~~' to he readily available far recovery into reclamation area. We y~ Q~4~ are in constant contact with the Soil Conservation Service regarding stabilization of stockpiles and reclamation cover crops. In fact, their office is in the same building as ours. -. 2. There will be some permanent fixtures and equipment graced on pits No. 1 8 6 as stated in the first two paragraphs; but it is unknown at this time dust what the specific placements will 6e. There will be no permanent placements in any of the other sites. 3. 8 4. Pit #3 will enlarge the existing reservoir and when min- ing is completed the surrounding area will be reclaimed back to the projected water line. This is strictly a private stock pond. Pit #5 is awned by the State Fish and Game Department, It is a shale deposit and will be mined at no greater depth than three (3) feet and will be used es a picnic and camping area. Reclaim- ation will be performed to their specifications and water drain- age will be diverted to where they specify.
