Bo;< 3609
Grand Junction, CO 81502
RE: File No. M-90-021, Virginia Acres Gravel Pit, Second Adequacy Letter
Dear Mr. McGehee
We have reviewed the additional information which
with the above-referenced application on May 18,
several outstanding items which must be submitte
before ,your application can be found adequate to
Act and Regulations.
MINING PLAN (EXHIBIT D)
you submitted in connection
1990. There are still
d or explained in more detail
meet the requirements of the
1. Your adequacy response indicates that you have provided "more
topographical detail of the site regarding current conditions,
adjacent river channel, and proposed excavation" on the revised
Mining Plan Map. Please describe where you have provided such
additional detail. I recognize that it is difficult to show
topographic relief on a site which is essentially flat; it should
not be so difficult, however, to provide contour lines showing the
comparative elevation and configuration of the adjacent river
channel and its slope.
You have indicated that you plan to salvage approximately 15,000
cubic yards of topsoil. This appears to be substantially less than
the total amount of topsoil available on the site. What do you
intend to do with the remainder of this material?
You have committed to constructing an earthen berm adequate to
withstand the flow of a i00-year flood on the south artd east edges
of the site. What will the final dimensions of this berm be? What
measures will be taken to insure that it is not subject to erosion?
4. The information provided states that the "elevation of this site is
practically uniform at 4,600"', but that the site "is in the
100-year flood-plain", anaThat the elevation of the flood plain at
this site is 4,599'. You also state that the berm will be built to
an elevation X602', leaving 2' of freeboard (4602-4599=3?);
then, three paragraphs later, you say that "an earthen berm will be
constructed to provide fora minimum of 1' freeboard...". Please
explain these inconsistencies.
o~
