C/~,\ll
U
~~
Dear Mr. Gorham,
RECEIVED
NOV 0 6 2001
pivision of Reolamatlon,
Mining and Satery
November 5, 2007
Kent Gorham
Division of Reclamation, Mining and Safety
1313 Sherman Street, Room 215
Denver, Colorado 80203
RE: Northfield Mine
Permit No. C-2006-085
Please accept the following narrative and supporting documents as response to Northfield
Mine permit application Adequacy Review of October 19, 2007. Responses were
prepazed by Environmental Alternatives, Inc., and Weaver Engineering Services.
Item 3: Land Use Map A Coal Ownership and Land Use Map B Surface Ownership is
provided.
Item 5: Northfield agrees to submit the appropriate permit page when MSHA number is
known.
Item 6: Revised insurance certificate is provided as replacement Exhibit AD.
Item 12: Bishop-Brogden Associates, Inc. has reviewed the text and calculations related
to the hydraulic conductivity value presented in their August 17, 20071etter and
determined that there was a typographical error in the text of the letter. The text
erroneously stated a hydraulic conductivity value of 0.024 gpd/ft^2, whereas this value
should have been 0.24 gpd/ft^2. All calculations, conclusions and determinations were
based on the correct value; accordingly, no adjustments to the text or calculations are
needed other than to correct the typographical error.
The industry standard method referenced in the Bishop-Brogden report of
multiplying the specific capacity value by a factor of 2000 in order to determine an
estimate of aquifer transmissivity is referenced in published resource including EPA
Ground Water Handbook, 1989, and Ground Water and Wells, Johnson, 1986. Text
pages 2.04.18 through 19 have been revised to include this information.
Item 13a :Pages 2.04-21 thru 22 were updated to include Chandler Creek alluvial
deposit description,
Item 13b: Northfield respectfully requests to be allowed to construct the alluvial
monitoring well coincidental to mine development, prior to coal extraction. Well
location and design will be submitted subsequent to notification from DRMS of permit
approval. Page 2.04-22 was updated to include information on up gradient Chandler
Creek alluvium.
~~vfl~®~~~~~q ~u~~~~~~~~~, u~~. ~ Il~c„
`_ 402 Valley Rd, Suite G, Canon City, CO 81212 %~ 81212
asnan.net
Phone: 719-275-8951 • Cell: 719-429-8950
