The purpose of this survey was to identify
areas with erosional features, namely rill and gully activity. This
survey along with suggested remedial actions satisfies the requirements
set forth in the Edna Mine permit for an annual rill and gulley survey.
The current rill and gulley plan now in place in the Edna Mine permit
deals with re-topsoiled areas that have been re-vegetated. This year,
in anticipation of changes submitted in the mines mid-term permit
submittal, the entire West Ridge area was surveyed. The Moffat Area
has no re-vegetated areas to date. The enclosed map summarizes ground
conditions encountered during the survey.
Areas that have been re-topsoiled and seeded were found to have no
significant erosional features. Vegetation, aided by the first year of
adequate moisture in many, is doing very well. This vegetation has
grown into previous erosional features evident from past years and mine
personnel see no areas that need attention in these topsoiled areas at
this time.
Non-topsoiled areas above the West Ridge haul road do have some
erosional features that would warrant some remedial action. However,
this area has not been seeded and much of this area will be further
disturbed with grading of final pit spoil from the top of the ridge.
This final pit grading will serve to reduce slope gradient and remove
these rills prior to re-topsoiling and seeding.
Non-topsoiled areas below the West Ridge haul road have been seeded and
some of this area is affected by erosional features. Of primary
concern are the features noted by bold lines on the enclosed map. The
feature that extends to the West Ridge ditch in the lower part of West
