Dept. of Natural Resources
In response to your letter of April 3, 1980 regarding the Request
to Succeed Operator at an Uncompleted Operation Request for Permit
Amendment for Rienau Mine No, 2, Northern Coal Company (NCC) wishes
to address the following stipulation:
Stipulation 2: that Northern Coal Company submit a plan to assess
the impacts of the Wilson-Loudy Loadout operation
on ground water quality in the area and implement
the plan within 45 days of approval of the permit
amendment (by May 18, 1980),
Northern Coal Company is proposing to assess the impacts the Wilson-
Loudy Loadout operation has on ground water quality in the area by
installing and monitoring three (3) alluvial wells located between
the Yampa River and the Loadout. These wells are identified as
HWL/OA-1 through -3 on the attached drawing ME-8245-11-1/l, In
addition to these wells, there are three existing wells within the
lease area, installed in December 1978 by Utah International, These
wells were visited on May 15, 1980 by personnel from WATEC, Inc, and
the depth to water was measured, The location of the wells and the
May 15 water levels are shown on the same attached drawing.
After discussions with Mr. Bill Harding of Utah International, it is
NCC's understanding that well GBB-1 is 160 feet deep and completed
in Q-R lower coal zone. GBB-1 is flowing around the cement surface
seal, GBB-2 is 68 feet deep and completed in H-1 upper coal zone.
GBB-3 is 8 feet deep and completed in alluvium, According to Bill
Harding, at the time it was drilled the depth to water in the
alluvium was about eight feet,
