III IIIIIIIIIIIII III
sss
~E - 2.03.2 INTRODUCTION

Coal Company's mine reclamation activities during the bonding period. The
enclosed information provides environmental and engineering data which document
historical and existing conditions for the site. The permit is not a permit to
mine but a permit to reclaim and maintain the mine area and the haul road during
the bonding period. Extraneous information related to past mining activities
and information related to legal rights to mine coal have been omitted; however,
if this information is required to document past mining activities, this infor-
mation will be available for review in Sun Coal Company's project office or can
be found in the original permit application, filed with MLRD December 1981.
Overburden Appraisal
Two overburden cores were drilled by Sun Coal Company in July 1977 and ana-
•
lyzed by Front Range Lab, Inc. In 1978, drill holes were stratigraphically
logged and analyzed to determine whether overburden geochemistry may be detri-
mental to future revegetation success
Detailed description of this program is
presented in Section 2.04.6.
Coal Analysis
Two coal samples from the Pinnacle coal seam were collected by Sun Coal in
June 1977 and analyzed by Hazen Research, Inc., in July 1977 (see Section 2.04.6
for details).
Surface Water Information
The Yampa River in the general vicinity of the permit area is being sampled
•
Doc Date:12/11/2001
The following provides baseline and operation information to support Sun
by the United States Geological Survey. Surface water monitoring for the permit
area is being maintained by Sun Coal Company and being analyzed by Bookcliffs
Laboratory in Steamboat Springs. All analytical work is being conducted
-1-
(Rev. 5/86)
