following procedures outlined in Standard Method for the Examination of Water
• and Wastewater. Additional surface water resource information has been prepared
by Denver consulting firms of Ertec, Fox Consultants, and EnecoTech Inc., where
all studies were under the direction of Mr. George M. L. Robinson. Detailed
discussions are presented in Section 2.04.7.
Soils
The original soil mapping was conducted by Robert Reeder of Romenco for the
1976 permit; and in 1978, Ecology Consultants Inc. performed additional studies.
In 1979, Camp, Dresser and McKee collected five soil samples and analyzed
material for pH, electrical conductivity saturation, particle size distribution
soluble calcium, magnesium and sodium, sodium adsorption ratio, and organic
matter. In addition, EnecoTech Inc. in 1983 collected additional samples from
the backfilled mine area and collected samples from the area adjacent to the
• lower Yampa sedimentation pond. All mapping activities were conducted using
Soil Conservation Service methodology. See Section 2.04.9 for detailed
discussion.
Vegetation
Original vegetative mapping was done by Robert Reeder of Romenco in 1976,
Ecology Consultants Inc. in 1978, Ertec in 1981, and EnecoTech Inc. in 1983 and
1984. The Romenco report produced maps using SCS range site data, Ecology
Consultants conducted on-site surveying and interpretations of aerial imagery,
and Ertec identified an acceptable reference area that approximates the post-
mining vegetative community. EnecoTech Inc. finalized the revegetation moni-
toring program in 1983 and conducted a revegetation monitoring program in 1984.
Detailed discussions are presented in Sections 2.05.4, 2.05.6, and 2.04.10.
•
- 2 - (Rev. 5/86)
