Grand County did not realize that gravel roads were man-made
structures in the general sense. I have attached an adden-
dum to Exhibit 6 -Site Description for the file .
3. We apologize for the confusion created by 'the conflicting
soil depths noted in the submittal. I think some of the
confusion ,comes from the"NRCS generic soils description that
' they sent: with their ,report. Generally these descriptions
give the applicant an idea of what the soils are like but
are not intended to give a site specific soils description
or depth of usable topsoil.
In the July 18,"2005 letter Mr. Mark Volt sent to the
County, he noted that "Topsoil on the site is very thin to
nonexistent.". I believe while this is a vague assessment
it would be considerably less than the 12 inches noted in
the ,soils description. When the United States Forest Ser-
vice (USFS) logged the area they left, stumps and slash on
the area. When it was stripped the surface layer was pushed
into the piles you note. Grand County estimate there is
5,00.0 cy of growth medium in the 5 piles located around the
site. Grand.County will retain the existing piles noted in
the review letter and will commit to using the growth medium
stored on site to place from 3 to 6 inches on the site.
